It's Raining Dogs and Cats!

Actually, it's raining hydrometeors, but who's quibbling!
Boredom reigns in houndland.

Pups enjoy the sunshine

We haven't been getting much in the way of sunshine lately, so the pups get jazzed whenever the sun peeks from behind the clouds. Today was gorgeous, and Lady Flame and Toby took full advantage of the warmth by lounging in the backyard. (Click on the collage for a larger view.)

Happy 6th Birthday, Lady Flame

Lady turned 6 years old today. She is the same shy girl we adopted 3 years ago, although she has been asking for a bit more attention of late, which is very nice...then she runs to her crate and hides. She also seems to be getting more sensitive to sounds, like when a pot hits the side of the sink when being washed, which upsets her and sends her flying to her crate.

At least we get to pet her briefly a couple of times each day (that is unless someone decides to wash dishes or just walks past while the petting session is going on.) We have to time our petting sessions when there will be no distractions.

Sigh... I've heard that it can take some dogs 5+ years to mellow out, and I think that Lady Flame will be one of those dogs. Sometimes, we wonder if she would be happier elsewhere, but since we don't know where that is, she is stuck with us. Veronica, if you get to the Dog Days of August before us (August 22nd from 10 am - 4 pm), please sign us up with the dog communicator for both pups;-)

Big dog welcome at the Portland Jetport

I just have to tell you about my big welcome home, by a dog at the Portland Jetport, on June 8th.

I was at the top of the escalator, that goes down to the baggage claim area, when I saw a man with his standard poodle standing near the bottom of the escalator. They were clearly waiting for someone to arrive. The poodle made eye contact with me and I smiled widely. I kept my eye on the poodle as I descended the escalator. As I reached the bottom, the poodle got excited. The man said, "She's been waiting for you!" So, I went over and gave the poodle a big welcome, much to the amusement to some bystanders (whom I think were also family members.) The dog gave me kisses, I asked her to sit, and she did. I complimented her and gave her a big hug. I thanked the man for the big welcome, and went on my way to baggage claim. Fun!
